About UsFR

motionball is a not-for-profit organization that builds awareness and raises funds for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation (SOCF), targeting a “next generation” of supporters – Canada’s professional crowd who are not defined by their age but rather their mind-set.

Who We Are

Our mandate is to introduce the next generation of volunteers and donors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events, creating relevant, meaningful experiences that help bring the fun back into giving. Since its inception in 2002, motionball is organizing events in 11 Canadian cities and as a result of the many individuals, partners and organizations who have supported the movement over the past several years, motionball delivered to the SOCF its original financial goal of its first donated $1 million four years ahead of its planned schedule. motionball has currently donated over $4, 500,000 net.

motionball currently organizes three Annual events in Toronto (The Gala; Marathon of Sport; and Fall Classic Golf Tournament), two in Vancouver (Gala; Marathon of Sport), two in Calgary (Gala and Marathon of Sport), two in Halifax (Gala and Marathon of Sport) as well as a Marathon of Sport in Ottawa, Montreal, Kelowna, Winnipeg, Kingston, Saskatoon and Regina.

Did you know that 2% of all Canadians are intellectually disabled? And while SOC has successfully registered 36,000 Canadians into its program – this number represents only 10% of the 2%. Through its events, motionball’s hope is to influence a positive change in these numbers by engaging more Canadians, building awareness and growing funds to support the SOC movement.

All of motionball’s proceeds go directly to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation (SOCF-charity # 869562041 RR0001) whose objective is to provide funding for athlete and volunteer recruitment and training for each provincial/territorial chapter. In addition, and at motionball’s request, 75% of the funds are sent to the Special Olympics chapter where the motionball event occurs (ex. 75% of proceeds from Toronto events are sent to Special Olympics Ontario to help fund the grass root level organizations that are so key to the SOC structure – to help pay for team uniforms; tournament costs; travel expenses; equipment; as well as the “Healthy Athlete” programs).
