Do something special on the playing field

Marathon of Sport, presented by Sun Life Financial, is an intense day of athletic competition that sees motionball supporters compete alongside Special Olympians in a range of sports.

Coupled with a participants’ pledge drive, the Marathon of Sport is one of the highlights of our fundraising calendar, and the excitement is spreading across the nation. motionball is honoured to welcome Sun Life Financial as title sponsor, and as our partner in growing Marathon of Sport across Canada.

17 teams of 10 people – each team joined by a Special Olympic Athlete – compete against each other in volleyball, flag football, soccer, ultimate frisbee,  and bocce ball with points awarded for victories and ties in each event. Sportsmanship and fair play are also rewarded.

Our goal is to have fun with sport and to gather Calgary’s next generation and introduce them to the benefits of Special Olympics, and to some of the athletes themselves. Marathon of Sport is a celebration of the Special Olympics family, and a chance to get together on the field for a common cause.

This year’s event will be held at The University of Calgary- Jack Simpson Gym
2500 University Dr. NW
Calgary, Alberta, Canada

All of our Marathon of Sport participants are invited to help support Special Olympics by gathering pledges. Funds gathered through pledges will be directed to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation, and used to support both national and local Special Olympics clubs.

All money raised in pledges will be credited on a dollar-to-dollar basis against a participant’s registration fee. As well, in order to encourage and reward participants who put in the extra effort that pledge gathering requires, motionball is pleased to offer a range of incentives.
