Marathon of Sport, presented by Sun Life Financial, is an intensely fun day of athletic competition that sees motionball supporters compete alongside Special Olympians in a range of sports.
Coupled with a participants’ pledge drive, the Marathon of Sport is one of the highlights of our fundraising calendar, and the excitement is spreading across the nation. Eighteen teams of 10 people – each team joined by a Special Olympic Athlete – compete against each other in volleyball, soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee and bocce ball, with points awarded for victories and ties in each event. Sportsmanship and fair play are also rewarded.
Our goal is to have fun with sport and to gather Halifax’s next generation of professional and community leaders and introduce them to the benefits of Special Olympics, and to some of the athletes themselves. Marathon of Sport is a celebration of the Special Olympics family, and a chance to get together on the field for a common cause.
Registration
This year’s event will be held at St Mary’s University in the Tower Gym at 934 Tower Rd. Team registration opens at 7:30 am. Opening ceremony will be starting at 8:45am so please be on time for registration.
All money raised in pledges will be credited on a dollar-to-dollar basis against a participant’s registration fee. As well, in order to encourage and reward participants who put in the extra effort that pledge gathering requires, motionball is pleased to offer a range of incentives.
